Electrochemistry

Electrochemistry is a subdiscipline of chemistry that investigates the relation between electrical energy and chemical changes. Electrochemistry is concerned with the reaction of a chemical species at the interface between an electron conductor and an ionic conductor where there is a transport of charge between the chemical species and the electrode.

Some applications of electrochemical processes are in the food industry, nanotechnologies, biosensors, batteries and electroplating.

Today, as energy consumption and the need for clean technologies are ever growing and demanding, electrochemical processes can help to alleviate environmental issues. Electrochemistry can be used in electric vehicles, for renewable energy conversion and storage, water treatment or sludge and soil treatment.

At BlueApp we draw on expertise of research group ELCAT of University of Antwerp whose core expertise is field of electrochemistry. To discover more about their research, visit  ELCAT .
